Saddened to discover tonight that Richard has passed away. A great loss for your family and everyone that knew him. Richard was my final year supervisor in 1997 with an office full of piles of paper that looked disorganised but it wasn't of course. His enthusiasm, constant grin, kindness, wise inspirational and motivating words were etched in my brain. Every time we met, he'd say something super useful that I still think about to this day! -- "I suspect it's a problem of scale.", "Maybe your seeing an accumulation of errors.", "Start in the middle", "Balance this interesting stuff with making yourself employable.", "Would you like a PhD?" -- Thank you for everything Richard. May you rest in peace for infinity. -- Jeremy Keen.
